Seasoning vs Spice Blend: What Is the Difference?

The difference between spice blends and seasonings, and how custom seasonings are developed for restaurants and food factories.

What is a spice blend?

A spice blend is a mixture of ground spices and herbs combined in fixed proportions, such as a kofta or shawarma spice mix. Its job is aroma and taste from the spices themselves.

What is a seasoning?

A seasoning goes further. Alongside spices, it can include salt, sugar, flavor boosters and functional ingredients designed for a specific application: a coating that sticks to chips, a broasted mix that forms a crust, or a marinade that penetrates meat. In industry, seasonings are built around the product and the process, not just the recipe.

How custom seasonings are developed

Development starts from a brief: the product, the target taste and the process. The team formulates a first version, tests it in the real application, refines it with tasting feedback, and then fixes the specification so the seasoning can be produced and supplied consistently at scale.

How seasonings are manufactured.

Seasonings are manufactured by weighing each ingredient to the formula, mixing them into a uniform blend, checking the batch against its specification and packing it.
